6 months

My dear sweet son,

It was a mere 6 months ago that you blessed your dad and me with your arrival into the world. Now, I cannot imagine my life without you. From the moment I wake up, I look forward to walking into your nursery to see your beautiful smiling face. You smile as bright as the sun when you hear my voice welcoming you to another day and my heart swells with love. At night, I inhale your scent right before I put you in the crib, listening to you breathe deeply and regularly, and knowing you will rest.

Those first several weeks of your life were so emotional for me. People told me over and over how my life would change with a baby. And I knew it would change. I just didn't know how MUCH until you arrived.

The first night home was so scary. I had no idea what to do. Thank goodness your Grandma was here to help me out. She woke up with us every time during the night, just to keep us company and to listen to me. Your daddy had to work long days so I took it upon myself to do all "night" duty. Luckily for me, you had mercy on your mama and began regularly sleeping through the night at about 3 months.

I slowly but surely gained confidence in taking care of you, and pretty soon, not only was I your mama, I FELT like your mama. I love that you know my face, recognize my voice, and that I get to be there for all your milestones. The first time you smiled, I think I laughed out loud. When you rolled over for the first time, I jumped up and down like a loon, cheering you on to do it again. I even texted your dad and grabbed the camera to catch your amazing feat! Watching you play and discover things makes me so happy. Your sweet warm kisses are the best and when you snuggle into my neck it makes me want to just eat you up!

Sometimes I still cannot believe that you are mine. Most people agree that you favor your mama. I do see bits of your Daddy in you, especially when you wake up. But there is no doubt you are my baby.

I love you, son! I can't wait to see you grow and discover in the next 6 months and beyond.

Love always,

Your Mama
