I love skiing. I really really do. I even missed a hockey game for it.
I love the cold. I love flying down the mountain, feeling the wind whip my hair back and hearing the whistle of speed in my ears. I love the burn in my legs when I'm doing a black run non-stop. I love the views you see from the top of the mountain. I love the clear crisp air I breathe.
What I don't love: wet socks, cold ski boots, high lift ticket prices, and skiing with SOME people who always run late, whine and complain because they're cold, bored, etc, and people who overestimate their skiing ability.
We skied Kirkwood on Monday. Awesome awesome awesome mountain! We skied that day with the guys the girls had met last year. It was so much fun. They were really good skiers and pushed my ski limits. The weather was absolutely gorgeous!
Tuesday we skied at Northstar for a 1/2 day (ARGH!) because *some* people were tired and didn't want to get up early. Since we only have one car, I was SOL. Vacationing with a group can be fun, but it can also be downright insane. Trying to make everyone happy just doesn't come easy, if at all. It was a productive ski day though. We skied several black runs and I handled them much better than I anticipated. It was also Sandy's birthday, so we went out to the casino and some hole in the wall bar.
Wednesday was supposed to be smooth. We had planned on meeting some people on a north-side mountian (Alpine Meadows), but it snowed like crazy and chains were required on the road we had to take. Did we have chains? No. Did we quickly decide to ski Heavenly, which is 250 feet away from our door? No. Complaints that it was too expensive. ARGH!!! You KNOW how much lift tickets cost. You know the reason we came here was to ski. It seemed like everyone was so scared of offending someone else. The good skiers felt bad that the bad skiers would shell out the money for the lift ticket and not get all they could out of it. What????!!! It's a frickin' ski trip people! Either learn to ski or don't deny someone else the opportunity. We finally got out on the mountain, but then they wanted to ski as a whole group, and OMG...I was going to pull my hair out we were going sooooooo slow and stopping like every 100 feet to wait for people to catch up. Later in the day, the snow got so bad, you couldn't see where you were going. So we called it a day a bit early. I was not a happy camper about how the day turned out. We ended up having dinner out and then we went to a casino. I met a guy. More on him later. (Yes, I know...keep your comments nice please!)
Thursday we skied Mt. Rose. Small mountain, but still fun. We FINALLY split up and skied in 3-4 separate groups according to skill level. Thank God! I got some amazing runs in, and feel so much more comfortable in my skiing ability since we concentrated on mainly the black runs and we ended the day on some challengling blues.
We cooked dinner instead of going out last night. The girls were planning on staying in, so it was a perfect night to go out with the guy I had met the previous night. I'll call him R. He's super cute and super smart. We talked FOREVER. Me, who is ready to go home before midnight, opted to stay at the casino with two other girls and take the shuttle back to the condo. That is how cool he was. He is a snowboard instructor at Heavenly. I'm sure we'll meet him out tonight.
And today...the girls decided not to ski. WTF? It's our last day. So rather than ski alone, I'm hoping R will have the afternoon off and maybe we can ski together. If not, oh well...what can I do?
Alright, this is waaaaaay too long. Cross your fingers that I can get on a flight home tomorrow.
